Fundación LAB Mediterráneo travels to Silicon Valley to learn more about a unique ecosystem in innovation and technological development

Valencia, 13 November 2023.-Fundación LAB Mediterráneo,a project promoted by the Employers’ Association of Valencia (AVE), held its second business mission, following the one to Israel last year, with the aim to learn from regions that are leaders in their spheres of action: entrepreneurship, innovation, technology and research. This time it is the USA’s turn, and specifically, California’s Spanish Chamber of Commerce. 

The expedition, made up of thirty or so businesspeople, held a series of meetings with important businesses and institutions in Silicon Valley, in order to learn about know success stories, share experience and promote business cooperation. 

The companies taking part wereAceitunas Cazorla, Air Nostrum, Aquaservice, AVE, Baleària, Dacsa Group, Familia Martínez/KM ZERO, Fundación LAB Mediterráneo , GDES, Grupo Gimeno, Helados Estiu, Importaco, , Korosti Inversiones, Libertas 7, Magrit, Patatas Meléndez Plug And Play, Royo/Invext, TCA, Verne Technology Group and Zeus/Sesame. 

The programme, which lasted five days, showcased the working of an ecosystem that helps entrepreneurship like no other in the world. Those participating in the mission were given the opportunity  to get firsthand knowledge of each of the players in the ecosystem – entrepreneurs, startups, technology companies or universities – like Google, HP, NVIDIA, PayPal, Plug & Play, Stanford University, Zoom, among others. 

TThe importance of business accelerators and Venture Capital was likewise scrutinised for financing the entire system. The Foundation’s president, Héctor Dominguis, pointed out that easy access to funding, together with the generation of talent in technology thanks to a university of international prestige like Stanford and a deeply rooted culture of innovation make Silicon Valley an ecosystem that is hard to copy in other parts of the world, but from which a lot can be learnt”. 

Fundación LAB Mediterráneo

Fundación LAB Mediterráneo is a project created by AVE with the mission of positioning the Region of Valencia as a national and European benchmark in entrepreneurship, innovation, technology and research.

To achieve this, it has set itself five objectives: to promote the creation and attraction of technology start-ups; to work to attract national and international technology companies to set up in the Region of Valencia and create a ‘tractor effect’; to promote support for companies in non-technological sectors to accelerate their digital transformation; to contribute to increasing private investment in R&D&I; and to help promote research.
